Organs for Organs

Organs for Organs Speech

January 8, 2018

Before Christmas I was lucky enough to be asked to speak at Organs for Organs, a Carol Concert with a difference. A collaboration between NHS Organ Donation and Mother London creative agency, hosted to raise awareness for organ donation.

It was held at Christ Church Spitalfields, an enormous and impressive church in East London, housing one of the oldest organs (of the musical variety) in the world. We sang brilliantly picked organ-related songs (Last Christmas being a highlight) and, alongside two other speakers, I talked about the magic of organ donation through my own experience.

My goal was to get people crying (because that means it's good right?!), I'm delighted to say, I got some bawlers :)

Happy birthday to this extraordinary man - love of my life and, rightly or wrongly, Otty’s favourite 😒 you make the perfect yummy mummy❤️
It’s a tricky one but I thiiiink this is my favourite photo from Running the Rift Marathon 2018, what do you guys think of it? It takes a bit of zooming but there’s a great big smile on the runner’s face and so much clapping from the crowd, it makes me right happy to imagine that moment☺️
.
Now that the Ot Bot has the occasional nap not in my arms I’m able to start working on the 2019 race and trip (19th-25th Nov in case you’re interested 😉) alongside our team at @kyaninga_lodge and the charity @kyaningacdc. Every year brings a different, wonderful group of adventurous people and I already can’t wait to make more friends out in beautiful Uganda🍻

If it tickles your fancy check out our website runningtheriftmarathon.com or send me a PM anytime.

When I was preggo I wrote a piece for @blacks_online about trying to stay active while growing a human (link in bio), I mentioned in it how much I was looking forward to bundling Otto into a sling and heading out for winter walks, kissing the top of his tiny head as we went.
.
Well now he’s real that’s exactly what we’ve been doing almost every day and I absolutely bloody LOVE IT. He’s relatively indifferent, mainly sleeps 😂
This is a rare photo of him being awake for it (although he was out for the count within a minute of being snapped).
.
My recovery journey back from pregnancy and birth is frustrating and in some ways more difficult than after the tranny-p. But my slow walks with the Ot Bot are helping to keep my thigh expansion somewhat at bay 😬

I’m a big old fan of organ donation -to put it mildly - but I admit it still took the wind out of me to see little Otto’s name on a donor card. I can’t imagine how it must actually feel to be a parent in that position. Wonderful, strong, kind people ❤️

Walking with the Botster around the very park where I slowly slowly found my feet again after the transplant. Once again unable to run but with another very happy reason I can’t!
.
Looking forward to the day this pram is a running buggy👏👏👏and in the meantime loving my new life of walks, cakes and cuddles 😍
